Where to buy legal kites, patangs & dor (pinna)?
Legal kites can only be purchased from government-registered vendors between February 1st and February 8th, 2026. You can find these approved sellers by checking the live map on the e-Biz Punjab Portal or by visiting designated clusters in the Walled City (Mochi Gate), Gulshan-e-Ravi, and Thokar Niaz Baig. To ensure your purchase is legal and avoid arrest, always verify that the kite and cotton thread (Pinna) carry a Government-issued QR code sticker, which is mandatory for all sales this year.Â
Do I really need an NOC to fly kites on my own roof?
Why Lahore is divided into 'zones' for Basant 2026?
The Punjab Government has divided Lahore into security zones to ensure the festival’s revival stays safe and organized. This helps police and drone teams monitor specific areas more effectively. Check your neighborhood’s status in the table below.
| Zone Color | Monitoring Level | Key Areas Covered |
|---|---|---|
| Red | Strictest (Drones + Police) | Walled City, Mall Road, Mughalpura, Dharampura, Defence, Shadman, Harbanspura. |
| Yellow | Moderate Supervision | Ichra, Qartaba Chowk, Saddar, Barkat Market, MAO College, Askari-10. |
| Green | Standard Rules | Gulberg, Liberty Chowk, Wateen Chowk, Gajju Matta, Bhobtian Chowk. |
How is the city managing traffic and safety zones?
To keep everyone safe, Lahore has been mapped into Red, High, Medium, and Low-risk zones. Over 100 wireless-connected traffic police camps are active citywide to manage the crowd and monitor drone surveillance. If you’re looking for a ride, there are 68 designated Rickshaw Points set up at major spots to help you find transport quickly.
Is public transport really free during Basant?
Safety Alert: Don't Get Fined!
If you're planning to ride a motorcycle during Basant (Feb 6–8), you must have a safety rod installed. It’s now a legal requirement to protect you from stray strings.
-
The Fine: Rs. 2,000 if you are caught without one.
-
Red Zones: No safety rod = No entry.
-
Get it for FREE: There are 100 camps set up across Lahore (like at Town Hall and Azadi Chowk) where the government is installing these rods for free right now.
Are printed kites allowed for Basant 2026?
Only plain, multi-colored, or decorative designs are legal. The Punjab Home Department has strictly banned kites featuring images of individuals, political party flags (including the number ‘804’), national flags of other countries, or religious symbols. Using kites with “Political Imagery” is a violation of Section 144 and can lead to immediate arrest.
What is QR code? and How do I verify a kite QR code?
Every legal kite must have a government-issued QR sticker. You can scan this using any smartphone camera; it should link back to the e-Biz Punjab Portal and show the registered manufacturer’s name. If the QR doesn’t scan or lead to the official portal, the kite is illegal.
Will it rain in Lahore during the Basant 2026 weekend (Feb 6–8)?
Good news for kite flyers! The current forecast for Friday night and Saturday shows clear skies and zero chance of rain, with pleasant winds perfect for a pecha. While there are whispers of a 20% chance of light drizzle late Sunday night, the main Basant events are expected to remain dry and sunny. Keep your kites ready—the wind is on our side this weekend!
