Dor for Kites in Lahore (Basant 2026): Prices & Legal Specs

Things to Consider for Strings - Dor for Kites

If you're gearing up for the "Colorful Kites Storm" this February, the most important thing in your kit isn't the kite—it’s the dor (string). With the 2026 SOPs and regulations being the strictest in Pakistan's history, using the wrong string won't just lose you a "Paicha"; it could land you in legal trouble.

What Makes a 'Dor' Legal in 2026?

The Punjab Kite Flying Ordinance 2025 has set very specific technical standards for what counts as "permissible" string. If your dor doesn't meet these three criteria, it is illegal:
  1. Material: It must be 100% cotton thread. Any nylon (Tandi), metallic wire (chemical), or plastic-coated string is strictly banned.
  2. The 9-Thread Rule: Legal dor must not exceed 9 strands (tars) aka 9-ply and must be at least 28-count thickness.
  3. The 'Pinna' Format: The traditional wooden Charkhi (spool) is now prohibited. All legal string must be sold and used in the form of a Pinna (ball).

The government has a zero-tolerance policy this year. Using chemical or glass-coated "bloody" string carries a penalty of 3 to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to Rs. 2 Million. The 2026 Basant is about celebrating safely—stick to the 9-thread cotton dor to keep the skies colorful and the streets safe.
