Is the Government Planning a Surprise Basant in March 2026?

Fact-Checking Basant in March 2026 Rumors
The Punjab kite-flying community has been buzzing with rumors regarding a second Basant March 2026 festival. These reports gained traction following interviews by Sheikh Shakeel, President of the Kite Flying Association, on Suno News HD (on Feb 11, 2026) and Capital TV (on Feb 12, 2026). Initially, it was suggested that the government might announce a “Punjab-wide” festival covering Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Lahore for late March.
However, in a follow-up interview with Click News Official (on Feb 14, 2026), Sheikh Shakeel has rejected these rumors, clarifying that no such official announcement has been made by the Punjab Government. While the association is actively filing a petition to allow kite flying in open areas 365 days a year, there is currently no legal permission for a festival on March 27, 28, or 29.
Official Government Status on Basant in March 2026
As of today, the Punjab Government has not notified any official dates for a spring festival in March. The previous event held in February was a specific one-time window. Citizens are advised not to engaged into any kite flying activity based on social media rumors, as the “zero-tolerance policy” against illegal kite flying remains in effect.
